The Situation
When Anthony Lewis from the Vibrant Vine winery approached us to photograph his latest bottles, there was one caveat: that the bottles had to be shot in such a way that the unique and vibrant wraps be glare free. This presented a unique difficulty; it meant we could not follow the traditional methodology photographers routinely apply to shooting glass wine bottles.
The Vibrant Vine is a market leader in the design of their coloured and intricately designed label wraps and fresh and zesty wines. Previous photographers had attempted to photograph the bottles using standard and traditional techniques that created highlights that followed the outside contour of the bottles, but this detracted from the shape and effect of the colourful label wraps.
The Approach
This conventional approach, although more than sufficient when photographing the traditional wine bottle, tended to overpower the uniquely-designed and multi-coloured wraps that are the signature look of the Vibrant brand. With this conundrum in mind, Victor called on his many years as a Director of Photography within the film industry as a lighting specialist to develop a unique lighting setup.
Rather than using lights traditionally used in the photographic industry, Victor used hot lights from the film industry to deliver crisp glare free photographs of the Vibrant Vine bottles.
The Results
No glare, no compromise on colour, design or shape. The lighting enhanced the wraps ensuring the vibrant labels retained full vibrancy in the photographs for all digital and print marketing.
“Victor is in my opinion one of the top three photographers in BC. He has and continues to surpass my expectations.”
